4-DHEA Description

DHEA may appear under the nomenclature 4-androstene-3b-ol, 17-one. 4-DHEA does not have much anabolic activity on its own, but it converts to testosterone in a two-step process involving the enzymes 3bHSD and 17bHSD. 4-DHEA first converts to androstenediol and androstenedione and then to testosterone. 4-DHEA is best used during mass gaining phases rather then during dieting phases, as it is considered to be a “wet” prohormone that is associated with mass gains that come with some temporary bloating.

4-DHEA would normally need to be taken in very high doses to see an anabolic effect, but taking it sublingually (where the compound is absorbed through the tissue under the tongue) can greatly improve absorption. 4-DHEA is currently completely legal and available over the counter.
